Sauna and Cold Plunge Capacity Sizing for Hospitality

01Sauna Seating Guidelines

02Ideal Ratio: 1 sauna seat per 3–5 guests

  • Minimum: 1 seat per 5 guests (if use is staggered or not central to the experience)
  • Optimal: 1 seat per 3 guests (for premium/wellness-centered operations)

Example:

  • 15 guests → 3–5 sauna seats
  • 30 guests → 6–10 sauna seats

03Factors Affecting Sauna Sizing:

  • Turnover rate (e.g. 15–20 min typical stay per guest)
  • Group behavior (do they come in couples? solo?)
  • Luxury level (premium guests may expect less crowding)
  • Operating hours (more hours = more staggered use possible)

04Cold Plunge Guidelines

Cold plunge turnover is typically faster than sauna use. Most guests spend 30 seconds to 3 minutes in a plunge. A single plunge can accommodate 1-2 people and can be cycled every 1-5 minutes. Additional units are primarily for shared cold plunging experiences.
